More and more hotels and restaurants want their tableware to reflect where they are and what makes them different. With the right decor, a plate can carry a venue's story to every table.
On a small granite island off Sweden's west coast, a historic lighthouse keeper's residence has been turned into a boutique hotel with just nine rooms. Its name is Pater Noster. For its dining, we developed an individual decor on CREATE by SCHÖNWALD, based on the same motifs that shape the hotel's interiors.
From Wallpaper to Porcelain
The interiors of Pater Noster were designed by the award-winning studio Stylt Trampoli. For the rooms, they created bespoke wallpapers inspired by the island's history, drawing on technical drawings of the lighthouse and the kelp that grows in the surrounding sea.
Together with Stylt, we brought these motifs from the walls onto porcelain. The result is a decor with fine kelp patterns along the rim and small stars in the centre. On selected pieces, such as the platter, the lighthouse itself appears. Interiors and tableware now share the same design language.
Why CREATE by SCHÖNWALD
CREATE combines nostalgic elements with modern design. Its classic embossed detailing reflects the current nostalgia trend in interiors and gastronomy, which made it a natural fit for a historic house by the sea.
The collection is made from Noble China and includes plates, platters, bowls and cups with saucers. All items can be combined flexibly from breakfast to dinner. The cups have a characteristic ribbon-embossed design and are well suited to coffee and tea service. The embossed rim also gives every piece a clear frame, so a fine decor sits naturally within it and leaves the centre free for the food.
How the Decor Was Made
With our decor service, we develop individual designs together with our customers, from the first sketch to the finished piece. For Pater Noster, the motifs from the wallpapers were adapted to the different CREATE items, so that each plate, platter and cup carries the island's story in its own way.
Ready for Everyday Service
A bespoke decor only makes sense if it works in daily operation. Our decors are dishwasher-safe and laboratory-tested, so they are made for professional use from the first service onwards.
At Pater Noster, the kitchen serves local seafood and herbs from the lighthouse garden at a long communal table. With CREATE, these dishes are served on tableware that belongs to the place. The same approach works for any venue with its own identity, whether it's a harbour restaurant, a mountain hotel or a family-run café.
